Rosacea is a poorly understood medical condition that affects about 16 million Americans. The chronic redness and flushing causes social embarrassment for many. There are many medical prescriptions that help with the symptoms such as acne eruptions, watery eyes, and generalized redness on the cheeks. And in fact our medical provider evaluates and treats many rosacea patients at our sister clinic “CLEAR” in Petoskey and Gaylord. However, even with prescription treatments, many patients complain about the small visible blood vessels and bumps that remain on the face.
At CSLC we offer two other specialized treatments for rosacea.
Intense Pulsed Light
This is a “laser-like” treatment that reduces the little red blood vessels on the face in patients suffering from rosacea. In a recent study, patients diagnosed with rosacea and treated with IPL had some pretty impressive improvement. Following IPL treatment 83% had reduced redness, 75% noted reduced flushing and improved skin texture, and 64% noted fewer acneiform breakouts. (Journal of Drugs in Dermatology 2003 Jun;2(3):254-9.) This treatment only takes about 20 minutes and leaves patients slightly flushed for about an hour after treatment.
Glycolic Acid treatments
Often used in combination with oral antibiotics, glycolic acid is a topical that can help a patient gain faster control over rosacea. The treatments are given every 2 to 4 weeks, these peels are applied to the face for up to 5 minutes. Following treatment, the skin is red for a few hours.
We’d be happy to see you for a complimentary consultation to discuss these treatment options. In addition we offer some specialized skin care programs for rosacea and sensitive skin.
