Otherwise known as “collagen induction therapy," professional microneedling with the FDA-approved SkinPen device is a cost-effective way to fade acne scars, minimize pore size, or smooth fine lines.
How does it work? First, we apply topical numbing medication for a virtually pain-free treatment. After a deep cleanse the skin is saturated with topical hyaluronic acid or your own platelet-rich plasma and then the treatment is performed. The depth of treatment is adjustable and customized depending on your skin thickness, your downtime preference, and your desired results, so the recovery can vary from none to a few days of dry, sunburned-feeling skin. Makeup may be applied soon after your treatment.
Microneedling stimulates new healthy collagen and directs new blood flow to the treated skin. Within a week, your skin will be smoother, plumper, and younger-looking (and feeling!). It's a favored treatment by both baby boomers and millennials.
Alternating microneedling treatments with Hydrafacials, ViPeels. or IPL offers even more improvement in skin discolorations. And for ultimate skin smoothing, microneedling is performed in a series of 3 to 6 treatments.
Many opt to use microneedling as a maintenance treatment 1-2 times per year.
Microneedling with or without platelet-rich plasma (traverseskin.com/treatments/regeneration/) may be used on the face, neck, chest, décolletage, body, and hands.
For cost savings, microneedling may be used alone without the addition of PRP. After saturating the skin with topical hyaluronic acid, we use the FDA-approved SkinPen microneedling device to puncture the skin, promoting collagen production. The depth of microneedling is adjustable and so is the recovery, but it can leave the skin pink for 1-3 days.
